IELTS Speaking

Episode Seven

Information

Lesson summary:

Episode: 7

This lesson is the final lesson in IELTS Speaking Part 2. As you may remember, in IELTS Speaking Part Two, you will receive a task card with a topic and some prompts to guide your response. You have one minute to prepare and one to two minutes to speak. The examiner will then ask a follow-up question before moving on to Part Three.

Key Challenges:

  • Structuring a clear and fluent response within the time limit

  • Expanding your ideas beyond the given prompts

  • Using a variety of grammar and vocabulary

The notes for this lesson can be downloaded here.

Grammar Suggestions

To impress the examiner, focus on a range of sentence structures:

  • Complex Sentences (Although it was a challenging experience, I learned a lot from it.)

  • Relative Clauses (The person who inspired me the most is…)

  • Past & Future Tenses (I visited this place last year, and I hope to go there again soon.)

  • Conditionals (If I had the chance, I would definitely do it again.)

  • Passive Voice (This tradition is widely celebrated in my country.)

🔹 Practice Task: Try to include at least one of these structures in your response.

Time Management

  • First 20-30 seconds: Set up your topic and give background information.

  • Next 40-60 seconds: Expand with details, personal experiences, and examples.

  • Last 10-20 seconds: Conclude smoothly without repeating yourself.

⏳ Tip: Use your one-minute preparation wisely. Write keywords, not full sentences to avoid sounding robotic.

Final Advice

✅ Speak naturally and confidently.
✅ Avoid long pauses—paraphrase if you forget a word.
✅ Use intonation and emphasis to sound more engaging.
