Episode: 2 of 3
IELTS Speaking Part Two is all about talking about a specific topic for one to two minutes. It tests your fluency, vocabulary, and grammar in a conversational setting. Here's a breakdown of what to expect:
The Task Card:
-
The examiner gives you a cue card with a topic and three or four prompts or questions to guide your talk. These prompts help you develop your ideas and cover different aspects of the topic.
-
Examples of topics could be a person you admire, a place you'd like to visit, or a skill you're learning.
-
You'll get one minute to prepare your thoughts and make notes if you wish.
Delivering Your Talk:
-
Once your prep time is up, the examiner will signal you to begin speaking.
-
Try to speak for the entire two minutes, demonstrating that you can develop your ideas and keep the conversation flowing.
-
Use the prompts on the card as a springboard, but don't just recite them.
What the Examiner Looks For:
-
Fluency and coherence in your speech.
-
A range of vocabulary and grammar structures that are appropriate for the topic.
-
Your ability to elaborate on your ideas and provide examples.
-
Overall confidence and engagement in the conversation.
After Your Talk:
-
The examiner might ask you one or two follow-up questions to explore your ideas in more detail. This is your chance to show you can think on your feet and discuss the topic in a broader context.
