Episode: 2

Introduction to IELTS Speaking Part One:

  1. Part 1: Introduction and Interview (4-5 minutes): The examiner will introduce themselves, ask for your identification, and initiate a general discussion. Questions in this part are usually about familiar topics such as family, hobbies, studies, work, etc.

Wise Men Technique

  • You can use this technique in any IELTS Speaking part

  • Use this technique to add further information in existing answers

  • It is recommend that the student uses this technique to:

 

Add more information about an answer

  1. Where?

  2. When?

  3. Why?

  4. How?

  5. Who?

  6. What?

Example:

Question: What do you do? (Do you work or do you study?
Bad Answer: I study.
Good answer with the Wise Men Technique: I study English in Auckland from Mondays to Fridays between 8am and 9am.

IELTS Speaking Part One: Personal Questions

Do you work, or do you study?

"I currently work as an English teacher for a small school, and I've been working here for nearly 5 years."

Where do you work/study?

"Currently I work at a local school here in Auckland, which is popular for many international students because we have a good English program."

Is it a popular job/subject in your country?

"Yes, in my country, teaching is quite popular due to the career prospects and job satisfaction, but sometimes it can be tiring."

If you had the choice, would you change jobs/subjects?

"In a nutshell, if given the opportunity, I would consider changing jobs if it aligns better with my interests and passions."
