Information
Lesson summary:
Episode: 6
This lesson introduces IELTS Speaking Part 2, which focuses primarily on giving an extended response. We want to emphasize the following:
-
Introducing the topic
-
Answer each question
-
Describing our experience more

-
Part 2: Long Turn (3-4 minutes): You'll be given a cue card with a specific topic. You have one minute to prepare and make notes before speaking for 1-2 minutes on the topic. After your talk, the examiner might ask a follow-up question.

It is important to understand that you do not need to answer all the sub-questions, but you do need to remain on topic. In other words, do not change the topic.

I like to suggest that students talk about their hopes, dreams, experiences, and past memories whenever there is little to talk about.

You should say:
-
what this monument is
-
where this monument is
-
what it looks like
and explain why you like this monument
Example Response
A monument that I love is the Statue of Liberty. This iconic monument stands proudly in New York City, specifically on Liberty Island in the harbor. The statue is a colossal copper sculpture portraying a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom. It holds a torch above its head with one hand and a tablet inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence in the other.
I admire the Statue of Liberty for its rich symbolism and what it represents. It stands as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy, welcoming immigrants and embodying hope and opportunity. Its history and the values it embodies make it a powerful and inspiring monument, resonating with people worldwide.
