Information

Lesson summary:

Episode: 3 of 3

Part 3 of the IELTS Speaking test dives deeper into the general themes you discussed in Part 2. It's your chance to talk about more abstract ideas and show your ability to discuss complex topics. Here's what to expect:

The Discussion:

  • This part is more like a two-way conversation between you and the examiner. They will ask you follow-up questions related to the broad topic of your Part 2 cue card.

  • The goal is to discuss issues, analyze situations, and even speculate on possibilities.

  • This section typically lasts 4-5 minutes.

What the Examiner Looks For:

  • Your ability to express and defend opinions.

  • How well you can discuss abstract concepts and ideas.

  • Your use of more complex vocabulary and grammar structures compared to Part 2.

  • Can you analyze and evaluate information?

Tips for Success in Part 3:

  • Think broadly. Avoid going back to specific details from your Part 2 talk. Give a reason and an example for each answer.

  • Use this opportunity to show off your analytical skills. Discuss the causes and effects of things, or compare and contrast different ideas.

  • Support your opinions with examples. Even if the examples aren't personal, use relevant details to back up your points.

  • Use a wider range of vocabulary and grammar. This is your chance to show the examiner you can handle complex discussions.

  • Listen carefully to the examiner's questions. Make sure your responses are directly related to what they ask.
